Dangers of sleep deprivation

Alumnus Dr Chong Yaw Khian (Class of 1994) shared how daily stress and increasing connectivity could cause lesser sleep among the Singapore population. Based on various sleep surveys and online polls, Singaporeans are listed as one of the most sleep-deprived people.

Several dangers of sleep deprivation include poor work performance, short focus span, ageing of skin, weight gain, serious health issues like heart diseases, stroke and diabetes, increased risk of death and sex drive impairment.

People with underlying medical conditions such as chronic insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea are recommened to consult a sleep specialist.
