Appointment of Research Assistant Professor Isabelle Guerin-Bonne as Head of Microscopy Core Facility Cluster

Published: 28 Feb 2025

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Research Assistant Professor Isabelle Guerin-Bonne as the Head of the Microscopy Core Facility Cluster at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), effective 1 March 2025.

Dr. Guerin-Bonne is a Cell Biologist specializing in Electron Microscopy, with a PhD from Paris University, France. Her doctoral research focused on the role of actin filaments in the mechanism of intracellular survival of Mycobacterium avium in macrophages. Following a postdoctoral position at UCLA in the USA and at the Neuroscience Institute in Montpellier, France, she joined the Electron Microscopy Facility at the Institute Pasteur in Paris. During this time, Dr. Guerin-Bonne honed her skills in advanced electron microscopy techniques, such as cellular electron microscopy, cryo-microscopy, and correlative microscopy.

For the past 11 years, she has served as an imaging expert at NUS, where she has managed the Electron Microscopy Laboratory and the Electron Microscopy Unit. In this role, she has employed various electron microscopy approaches to study a wide range of biological samples, from macromolecules to tissues, and continues to pursue her passion for understanding physiological and pathological processes using cutting-edge microscopy methods.

With the establishment of the Microscopy Core Facility Cluster at the School, Dr. Guerin-Bonne will lead the Electron, Multiphoton, and Confocal Microscopy core facilities. She will support Prof Roger Foo, Vice-Dean for Research, in overseeing the operation and management of these facilities, spearhead research initiatives, provide expert guidance, and uphold the highest standards in microscopy service delivery. Her leadership will be pivotal in advancing the School’s research capabilities through advanced microscopy expertise and techniques.
