Appointment of Associate Professor Shefaly Shorey as Vice-Dean (Administration), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore

We pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Shefaly Shorey as Vice-Dean (Administration) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), with effect from 1 March 2025.

A/Prof Shorey brings unparalleled expertise and vision to her leadership role, shaped by an illustrious career spanning nursing, education, and healthcare. She joined NUS as an Assistant Professor in 2015 and served as an Associate Professor (with Tenure) at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies at NUS Medicine (NUS Nursing) since January 2022. In her role as Academic Programme Director for the Undergraduate Honours Programme, she has redefined pedagogy and spearheaded curriculum advancements, inspiring a new generation of nurse scientists. Her appointment as Assistant Dean (Administration) at NUS Medicine in September 2024 underscores her leadership and unwavering dedication to transformative healthcare and service.

Before transitioning to academia, A/Prof Shorey honed her clinical skills at the National University Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) unit, solidifying her commitment to patient-centred care. Globally recognised as a trailblazer in nursing research and education, A/Prof Shorey has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and has been consistently ranked among the top 2% of most-cited scientists globally by Stanford University since 2021. Her outstanding contributions to the field have garnered numerous accolades, including the US-ASEAN Fulbright Scholarship—the first ever awarded to a nurse leader in Asia—and the Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in 2024. Among her many honours, A/Prof Shorey is also a recipient of the National Awards (COVID-19) in 2023 and the President’s Award for Nurses in 2021, Singapore’s highest distinction in Nursing. As a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusivity, A/Prof Shorey integrates these core values into every aspect of her research and leadership. This is evident in her roles as President of Women in Science and Healthcare (WISH) in the National University Health System (NUHS) and Chair of the Southeast and East Asia Nursing Education and Research Network (SEANERN).

In her new role as Vice-Dean (Administration) at NUS Medicine, A/Prof Shefaly Shorey will oversee human resource management, ensuring strategic workforce planning and talent development to support the School’s mission. She will drive operational excellence, spearhead digital transformation and infrastructure development, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to optimize manpower strategies. Additionally, she will lead transformative initiatives that enhance administrative efficiency and innovation, aligning with the School’s commitment to excellence in administration and innovation.
