Speaker: Professor Michel Merle, European Institute for Hand Surgery, Kirchberg Hospital, Luxembourg

Hand injuries are common, and unfortunately potentially devastating for the patients affected. Thanks to an improvement in our understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics of the hand, together with a revolution in surgical techniques, we are now able to achieve far better clinical outcomes for our patients. This talk traces the development of hand surgery and hand surgery services in France, which parallels our own journey in Singapore. A second part of the lecture will focus on the symbolism of the hand in art, science and religion in various cultures around the world. Together, these will provide perspective on the importance and fascination with the hand, and the philosophy in managing the injured hand.

Registration & Breakfast at 7.10am, talk begins at 7.40am.
