Materal perinatal depression is a common mental disorder with a prevalence of over 10 percent, associated with long-term health risks for both the mother as well as the offspring. The objective of this presentation is to discuss these health risks, and discuss what can be done to prevent or treat a depressive episode that occurs during pregnancy or after delivery. The presentation will also include recent data on risks and/or benefits of antidepressant drug treatment during pregnancy.
