Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MBBS Intercalated Year Programme and how does it benefit me as a medical student?

The Intercalated Year Programme (IYP) provides current NUS undergraduate medical students the opportunity to take one academic year off to pursue another area of study. We are started off with the Master of Science (Research) programme in AY2021/22.

The IYP enables NUS MBBS students who have the ability and interest to acquire diverse skills and competencies. This offers our graduates the benefits of being interdisciplinary in their outlook as future healthcare professionals of Singapore, and provides them a competitive edge for future career prospects.

Will there be more programmes offered under the MBBS Intercalated Year Programme in future?

Yes. The School is continuously exploring ways to ensure our graduates remain relevant and future-ready to serve the community and nation as healthcare professionals.

I am in my pre-clinical years of the MBBS programme. Can I apply?

Currently, the programme offered under the MBBS IYP are for clinical year students only. However, as the IYP evolves, you can expect other programmes that will be available for pre-clinical year students in future.

No, the IYP must be enrolled on a full-time basis.

Can I apply to take the IYP after completing Phase V of the MBBS?

No, the IYP must be taken during the course of the MBBS study.

If I enroll in a Masters programme under the IYP and utilise my government subsidy, will I be eligible for another government subsidy if I wish to undertake another Masters program in future?
