MBBS Intercalated Year Programme (IYP)

The Intercalated Year Programme (IYP) provides an opportunity for NUS Medicine undergraduate medical students to take an academic year off and pursue another area of study.

For the Academic Year 2024/2025, the following programmes are available as part of the IYP.

  1. Master of Science (Research), by the NUS Medicine Division of Graduate Studies
  2. Master of Public Health, by NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health
  3. Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics (by Coursework), by NUS Medicine Department of Biomedical Informatics (new)

Programmes under the IYP are offered on a full-time basis only, to be completed in one academic year. There are five vacancies per academic year across all IYP offerings. Applicants must have a good academic record, in addition to the entry requirements of the Master’s programme.

Important Notes

  1. Successful applicants will need to apply for a one-year Leave of Absence (LOA) from the MBBS in order to pursue the IYP. Upon completion of the IYP, students will resume the MBBS programme.
  2. Students who have existing official obligations such as PSC scholarship will need to obtain approval from the respective organisations prior to enrolment into the IYP.
  3. IYP is only open to female students and male students who have completed their National Service.
  4. Students who utilise their government subsidy for MOE subsidised graduate programmes under the IYP will not be eligible for another MOE subsidy should they choose to enroll in another graduate programme at the same or lower level in future. More information can be found here.
