Programme Highlights

Operated by AIU Singapore in collaboration with the Centre for Healthcare Simulation, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, this course will equip healthcare professionals with specific skills in the area of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), which is a powerful tool for diagnosis and guiding interventional procedures in many clinical environments.

Course Objective:
To acquire a complete set of diagnostic quality views to answer the following protocol based clinical question, ‘Is there common bile duct dilatation or evidence of cholecystitis?’.

Expected Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate effective use of an ultrasound machine
2. Optimise an ultrasound image
3. Recognise normal ultrasound anatomy and describe using sonographic terminology
4. Acquire images of a gallbladder in two planes and the CBD at porta hepatis
5. Record accurate measurements of the GB wall and CBD diameter

With the skills from this course, healthcare professionals will be more efficient in their roles and be able to develop patient-centric ultrasound solutions that will lead to better patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals with an interest in POCUS are highly encouraged to attend this course.

Pre-Requisites and Assessment

Qualification: MBBS with SMC registration.

Equipment: Regular access to an ultrasound machine and patients.

Commitment:

  • Willingness to commit to uploading images and case studies for eligibility to progress to the next level.
  • No previous ultrasound experience is necessary.
  • A desire to grow professionally.

Assessment components include multiple choice questions and practical scanning assessment rubrics.

Awards and Certification

Learners must record at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment components to successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion. Please note that learners may have to bear the full course fee if they fail to meet either of these requirements.

In addition, the following accreditation points are awarded:
