Programme Highlights

Operated by AIU Singapore in collaboration with the Centre for Healthcare Simulation, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, This course enables doctors to integrate their prior learning, of acquiring and interpreting ultrasound images, into a patient management pathway if they diagnose free fluid or free air in the chest and abdomen.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

1. To obtain the skills to integrate an eFAST protocol Point of Care UltraSound (PoCUS) into the patient management pathway in emergency assessment of shortness of breath and chest/abdominal pain.
2. Become a safe and experienced PoCUS practitioner.

A practitioner who completes this program will be recognised and acknowledged as being competent in performing point of care ultrasound for their patient’s welfare.

Pre-Requisites and Assessment

Complete Level 1 (Acquisition) and Level 2 (Interpretation) modules of the same course.

Qualification: MBBS with SMC registration.

Equipment: Regular access to an ultrasound machine and patients.

Commitment:

  • Willingness to commit to uploading images and case studies for eligibility to progress to the next level.
  • No previous ultrasound experience is necessary.
  • A desire to grow professionally.

Assessment components include a demonstration (mini simulation), practical exam, two online tests, as well as a logbook and case submission with tutor review. A minimum number of acceptable quality cases are required.

Awards and Certification

Learners must pass all assessment components to successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion. 

In addition, the following accreditation points are awarded:

  • CME points accredited by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
