Programme Highlights
This beginners’ course is to equip learners with fundamental skills to access research data that would be useful for work. We will demonstrate how searches using search engines like Google and Google Scholar can be made effectively using relevant search terms and criteria. We will also highlight the access of relevant databases including Data.gov.sg, Pubmed, Embase and Cochrane Library.
Course participants will also have hands-on practices on using these databases. We will describe components in different types of healthcare and biomedical related research, including scientific research, clinical research and systematic reviews and meta-analysis. In addition, we provide learners with a framework to critically evaluate research data in terms of research design, validity and reliability issues, sampling and basic statistical tests so as to make informed, objective decisions when using the data. Lastly, we will demonstrate concrete examples of research work of how the skills highlighted are applied. Course participants will have time to apply these skills using examples provided.
After the course, course participants will be able to perform targeted searches using validated datasets, critically evaluate and make proper use of data.
