Programme Highlights
This course (BRMC 306) is designed to allow learners to have an in-depth understanding of biosafety practices related to laboratory animal experiments and relevant national /international standards/guidelines for experimental animals’ care and use.
This course aims to equip learners with the following insights:
- Identify and assess hazards and risks associated with animals and agents to determine appropriate laboratory containment level
- Plan and develop appropriate programmes for addressing biorisk as well as the import, export and quarantine of animals and agents in accordance with national and international biosafety standards, guidelines and legislations
- Plan and develop appropriate programmes for addressing decontamination, waste and pest management as well as occupational health to minimise incidents and accidents at the workplace.
- Assist in resolving conflicts between biocontainment and animal welfare in order to ensure ethical and humane care and use of animals

The knowledge and skills acquired from this short course will enable them to develop and implement a comprehensive biosafety and biosecurity management programme in biomedical laboratories of various industries (e.g. education, healthcare, pharmaceutical, biomedical sciences & technology).

Pre-Requisites and Assessment
Prerequisites:
• Degree or diploma in biomedical science or equivalent field with one year of laboratory experience OR
• Attended and passed the ‘Principles and Practices of Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity’ short course
Pre-course Assessment:
- A copy of individual’s latest CV/Resume and education qualification certificate(s) are required for submission during course registration.
- Successful registration does not equate to successful enrolment to the short course.
- A one-time Pre-course Assessment will be conducted for registered individuals who have met all other pre-requisites criteria to confirm the course enrolment.
- Applicants are to select only 1 Pre-course Assessment session in their online application. Details of the pre-course assessment session will be shared by the Biosafety Level 3 Core Facility team.

- Individuals who have not passed the Pre-course Assessment will be recommended to complete the Principles and Practices of Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity course before enrolment to any of the other advanced-level short courses.

Awards and Certification
Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion* by NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
*Participants must fulfil at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment components, to be eligible for SSG funding.
A Professional Biorisk Management Course Certificate will be awarded to participants who have successfully completed and passed all 6 advanced-level short courses:

- BRMC 302- EIMBMSBL
- BRMC 303 – RIABFL
- BRMC 304 – CPPDCMCCF
- BRMC 305 – SISUBCACLSE
- BRMC 306 – GBBPWEA
Completion of the Professional Biorisk Management Course offered by the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, is recognised as the required training qualification for persons who are interested to take on the role of a ‘Biosafety Coordinator’ under the Biological Agents and Toxins Act, Ministry of Health, Singapore.
The above short courses can be completed and stacked within 3 years, to be eligible for a Professional Biorisk Management Course Certificate.

2) Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES): Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.
3) Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS): SME-sponsored employees (Singapore Citizens and PRs) may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.
4) Learners must pass all assessment components to successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion. Please note that learners may have to bear the full course fee if they fail to meet this requirement.
