Programme Highlights

This two-day course will focus on advanced topics in clinical supervision for experienced clinicians with supervisory and management responsibilities. Participants will develop skills for planning advanced clinical education programmes (e.g. Videofluoroscopic study of swallowing (VFS) training, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) management), providing clinical supervision in interprofessional settings, and managing challenges related to the training of advanced clinical skills.

Models of supervision will be applied to further focus on providing mentorship to junior colleagues and planning the professional development of staff.

Training will be conducted in the form of seminars, small group and individual activities.

This course is organised by the Department of Otolaryngology and conducted by teaching faculty from the Master of Science (Speech and Language Pathology) Programme.

Trainer Profile

This programme is led by Dr Sajlia Bte Jalil, a faculty member and practising Principal Speech Therapist, together with Ms Yu Wanling and Mr Joel Tay who are faculty members and experienced clinicians. Dr Sajlia and Ms Yu are joint coordinators for Clinical Education in the SLP Programme.

5. Leadership styles – Being a coach/mentor
  • Effective leadership styles (e.g. The Situational Leadership Model)
  • Factors contributing to professional growth
6. Specific supervisory contexts
  • Tele supervision
  • Peer supervision
  • Interprofessional education

Pre-Requisites and Assessment

3 or more years of supervisory experience. This experience may be with junior staff, experienced clinicians and/or other professional support employees

Assessment components include short-answer and multiple choice questions.

Awards and Certification

All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

1) All self-sponsored Singaporean aged 25 and above can use their SkillsFuture Credit to pay for the course fee.

2) Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES): Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.

3) Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS): SME-sponsored employees (Singapore Citizens and PRs) may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.

4) Learners must pass all assessment components to successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion. Learners may have to bear the full course fee if they fail to meet this requirement.
