Published: 17 Jan 2025

Faye Ng Yu Ci, a 2024 graduate from NUS Medicine, has been selected as one of 150 Schwarzman Scholars for a fully-funded master’s degree in global affairs at Tsinghua University, Beijing. She is the only Singaporean in this year’s cohort, representing 38 countries and 105 universities worldwide.

The prestigious Schwarzman Scholars programme is known for its rigorous selection process, involving personal essays, interviews, and evaluations by an esteemed panel. Faye’s acceptance into the programme highlights her exceptional leadership, academic prowess, and dedication to healthcare innovation.

“Faye has never failed to delight me with her enterprising spirit and incisive worldview, as well as what she sets her mind on and commits to accomplishing. Her achievements in academic research, clinical innovation, and the medical humanities speak for her holistic excellence, and she continues to be an inspiration to her peers and juniors in Medicine. I congratulate her on this opportunity to better understand the geopolitical factors driving our fast-changing world through the Schwarzman Scholarship, and believe the programme will groom her well for future leadership roles in public healthcare as a clinician innovator. She is a perfect fit for the programme’s global outlook and cross-disciplinary emphasis—I never doubted she would be selected by the committee,” said Professor Chong Yap Seng, Dean of NUS Medicine.

Currently, Faye is serving as a house officer in Singapore’s public healthcare system, showcasing her commitment to advancing healthcare through technological solutions. She is involved as well in the Duke-NUS Innovation Programme to develop devices to combat myopia in children. She envisions using artificial intelligence to personalise healthcare and streamline administrative tasks and improve patient care.

On the last day in London, Faye had dinner before the trip concluded and everyone flew back to their respective countries.

Faye’s interest in China’s socio-economic landscape and healthcare system began during her pre-university years as a bicultural studies scholar. At Tsinghua University, she aims to deepen her understanding of healthcare innovations and apply these insights globally.
