Biography

Manoor Prakash HANDE is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed research articles in prestigious international journals, including Nature Genetics, Cell, Science, Genes and Development, and PNAS, achieving a Scopus H-index of 56 and approximately 14,500 citations.
Dr Hande’s research focuses on telomeres and telomerase in ageing and cancer, experimental cancer therapeutics, and biomarkers of radiation exposure. He is actively involved in teaching cancer biology and ageing to life sciences students. At Tembusu College, NUS, he conducted interdisciplinary seminars, such as “Biomedicine and Singapore Society” and “Radiation and Society.”

He holds adjunct professor roles at Vellore Institute of Technology in India and Mangalore University in India. During his sabbatical from NUS (2015–2016), he served as a consultant for the Division of Human Health at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.

From 2017 to 2021, Dr. Hande was an expert member of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). Since July 2021, he has been a member of Committee 1 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). He co-chairs the ICRP Task Group 121 on the effects of ionizing radiation exposure in offspring and future generations and is a member of Task Group 118 on Relative Biological Effectiveness (RBE), Quality Factor (Q), and Radiation Weighting Factor (wR).

Dr. Hande has been on the editorial board of Mutation Research – Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis since 2017 and became its Regional Editor in July 2022. He has also served as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Radiation Biology since November 2021. In July 2021, he was appointed Assistant Dean of Safety and Research Facilities Management at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS
