NUS Medicine signs MOU with Semmelweis University on collaboration in education and research

The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Semmelweis University on 7 November 2022. The ceremony took place at the Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary.

The signing was represented by Professor Chong Yap Seng, Dean of NUS Medicine, and Professor Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University. The MOU aims to establish the universities’ intent to collaborate with each other in key areas of mutual interests, including research, as well as faculty and student exchange programmes.

The Semmelweis Symposium 2022 was held in conjunction with the signing ceremony. This is an annual scientific event organised by Semmelweis University that presents the latest scientific results and innovations and serves as a forum for international knowledge transfer and networking. This year’s Symposium, held from 7 to 9 November 2022, was organised around the 40th anniversary of international medical education at Semmelweis University covering a wide range of topics, such as anti-cancer treatment, cardiovascular medicine and oral health.

The Semmelweis Symposium 2022 had a dedicated segment featuring speakers from Singapore. Assoc Prof Marion Aw, Vice-Dean for Students, and Assoc Prof Alfred Kow, Assistant Dean for Education, delivered keynote speeches on holistic medical education and using technology to enhance teaching at NUS Medicine. The segment also saw speakers from NUS Medicine, namely Prof Chong Yap Seng, Prof Roger Foo, who holds the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Professor in Medicine, and Assoc Prof Kofidis Theodoros. Another segment of the event featured the Healthy Ageing Symposium, which was chaired by Prof Andrea Maier, Oon Chiew Seng Professor in Medicine, Healthy Ageing and Dementia Research.
