Programme Highlights

This course, specifically created for educators, presents the research-based approach to studying. Learners first learn how the fundamental findings from the science of learning are translated into simple, pragmatic methods that students can use to improve their learning inside and outside of classrooms.

They are provided a holistic framework that not only identifies techniques how to best learn, but even more importantly, how these techniques can be implemented in a practical manner. Learners are further provided an opportunity to reflect on how their current teaching practices support or discourage strategic learning by students.

The course includes lectures, demonstrations, activities and case group discussions, culminating in an individualized written plan how to implement strategic learning in their teaching

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand some of the major research findings from the learning sciences and how they apply to students in the classroom
  • Identify, assess and defend their own learning and teaching approaches
  • Explain how scientific findings on learning can be translated into teaching and learning methods
  • Develop their own personal teaching/learning plans and philosophy

Benefits of Attending

Using the same strategic learning framework as students, Educators will understand  how different pedagogical methods can be used to create the conditions that improve student learning by the end of the course.

Through this course, educators will be given the opportunity to reflect on their teaching practices and develop a plan how to implement changes that are better aligned with how their students best learn.

The course uses a framework towards learning developed by the instructors of the course. This holistic approach covers a wide range of subjects, from educational psychology, learning sciences, behavioural and implementation sciences, health and wellness.

From the course, participants will gain:
a) Increased awareness of learning strategies and an understanding of the principles that inform them
b) An expanded repertoire of learning strategies and a process to apply them
c) Enhanced communication skills of in-depth theoretical content and research to non-experts
d) Greater understanding on how scientific findings on learning can be translated into learning strategies
e) Ability to develop a personal teaching and learning plan for self or for students
