The FSA assesses the candidate’s aptitude for Medicine and if the candidate’s values align with NUS Medicine. All candidates would have met the required academic threshold prior to being shortlisted; we do not test candidates on their academic or medical knowledge during the FSA. The duration of the FSA ranges from 90 – 120 minutes. Candidates will go through a series of 5-7 stations, which will comprise a mixture of the following:
There is no preparation required for the FSA as academic knowledge will not be tested. Candidates are encouraged to stay calm and be themselves as they go through each station.
Actual Day of Focused Skills Assessment
Please wear smart and comfortable attire as you might have to climb stairs when moving between stations.
Registration
Candidates are to bring along their identification card for registration. Mobile and communication devices will be collected at registration. Candidates are encouraged to bring along some reading materials as they might have to wait up to 2 hours at the registration area. Note that parents will not be able to accompany their children for the registration and assessment.
Briefing
After registration, a member of the NUS Medicine Admissions Committee will explain to candidates the schedule for the day and what is to be expected during the interviews.
Assessment
The FSA will take a total of 90 – 120 minutes to complete. The assessment will be spread of over a period of 4 to 5 hours (with breaks in between), providing candidates time to rest and collect themselves before the next assessment.
Post Focused Skills Assessment
To maintain the integrity of the scenarios given to candidates, candidates will only be allowed to leave once all candidates from their session (AM or PM) have completed the FSA.
Candidates will be notified if they are offered a place in NUS Medicine. Please check your offer status via the NUS Applicant Portal. Candidates on reserve list will be notified through email.
Candidates who are offered a place and are placed on the reserve list will be invited to attend the Meet & Greet session with the School’s faculty members and current students.
