Dr Manfrini is Medical Director of the 3rd Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Clinic at Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, Bologna, Italy.  After graduating with honors from the University of Bologna in 1980, Dr Manfrini completed his Orthopaedic training with honors in 1985 and further sub-specialization in hand surgery from the University of Modena in 1990.  Since then, he has been based in Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, a world renowned institute for musculoskeletal oncology, complex joint arthroplasty, paediatric orthopaedics, spinal deformity and articular capsulo-ligament injuries.

Dr Manfrini has a special research interest in complex biologic reconstruction of bone tumours, orthopaedic oncology, implant biomaterials, gait analysis and basic science.  He played a key role in establishing the Movement Analysis Laboratory, an independent research unit focused on perioperative gait analysis.

He has authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications and has documented his vast experience in the Atlas of Musculoskeletal Tumors and Tumor-like Lesions. He is the course director and organizer of the annual prestigious Course on Musculoskeletal Pathology hosted by the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute. This multidisciplinary course involving surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and oncologists is widely regarded as the leading Orthopaedic Oncology course internationally.
