Lipids is one of the four big classes of biomolecules. They have a large variety of biological functions, from structural to signalling to storage. Besides lipid-based diseases, lipid and lipid metabolism dysfunctions have also been implicated in other conditions such as cancers, diabetes, infectious diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Recent advancements in technology has allowed us to better extract and study lipids, and this has led to the emergence of the field of lipidomics.

Through lectures and discussions, this course will take participants through mass spectrometry types and applications, examples of ongoing research, bioinformatics and data analysis and study design.
