The Graduate Diploma in Mental Health [GDip (Mental Hlth)], offered by the Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS), National University of Singapore, in conjunction with Institute of Mental Health (IMH), aims to increase the capability of general practitioners (GPs) in mental health by training them appropriately for the role to detect and treat minor mental health disorders in the community. Students who successfully complete the six Courses and final examination will be awarded the GDip (Mental Hlth).
The course comprises 6 Courses:

The first month of each Course comprises weekly didactic sessions on Saturday afternoons. In the second month, students will self-study and complete a case write-up. Please click here for the Programme schedule.
The Programme syllabus will be covered either by lecturers and/or in reading materials, video and live supervision, journal discussions, case vignettes, clinical attachments and/or self-study. Clinical attachments will be available with close supervision and guidance from IMH’s doctors.
NUS and IMH reserve the right to make any amendments to the Programme structure and fees without prior notification whatsoever to the parties involved.
The Programme will be assessed in the following way unless otherwise stated:

The CA component comprises case discussion, case write-up and course examination.
Students must complete the following assignments and/or class participation to be eligible for Course examinations:
- Case write-up (for all Courses)
- 75% classroom attendance (for all Courses)
- Clinical attachments (Applicable to HM5102, HM5103, HM5104 and HM5105 only)
- Participation in case discussion/ case vignettes/ live supervision (for all Courses)
Students must pass all CA components to be eligible for the final examination. Students who fail to meet the minimum passing criteria for any assessment component in the Course shall re-take the failed Course at the next Programme intake. All students are to complete the Programme/examination within 3-year candidature period.
September of each year and the programme is subject to minimum uptake of 18 students.
CME points will be awarded to doctors registered under the Singapore Medical Council (SMC). The number of points to be awarded will be subject to the discretion of SMC.
- Hold a recognised basic medical degree.
- Possess a valid Singapore Medical Council (SMC) Practising Certificate.
- General Practitioners who have completed housemanship or are non-traditional source medical officers.
- General Practitioners with an interest in Mental Health, including GPs on Mental Health – GP Partnership Programme.
- Primary Care Physicians
Applicants are required to create an account and submit an online application via the Graduate Admission System (GDA3) by the stipulated deadline. A step-by-step guide to applying online can be found here.
- All required fields are accurately filled, and all supporting documents are uploaded into the system.
The programme administrator is not obliged to give reasons for rejected applications. Applicants will be informed by post of the outcome of their application.
The following documents must be submitted together with your application:
- Recent passport-sized photograph (image has to be 400 by 514 pixels)
- A copy of your CV (employment history; in ascending order)
- At least 2 Testimonials from direct Heads of Department / Supervisors (where applicable)
- Certified true copy / scanned coloured copy of the following documents (Official English translations will be required for stamps or certificates sent that are not in English):
- Identification documents:
- NRIC: for locals / permanent residents
- Employment Pass and Passport: for foreigners (residing in Singapore)
- Identification documents:
- Recognised basic medical degree
- Valid practising certificate from SMC
- Certificate of TOEFL Score, where applicable
- Certificates of any other qualifications, where applicable
- Completed Enrollment Form to be uploaded under “Other Form”
Photocopies of certificates and/or official translations (in English)# including any other official supporting documents will be accepted only if they have been prepared and/or authenticated by one of the following:
- the issuing University or Medical School
- Medical Council of which you are registered and licensed to practice
- Ministry of Health, Singapore;
- a notary public or Justice of the Peace;
- Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS) - For authentication by the DGMS office, original certificates and documents must be produced.
# Applicants must submit an authenticated translation if their official supporting documents are not in English. A fresh ink stamp must be used to authenticate the copy or translation of the primary medical qualification.
Applicants who fail to present their original documents for verification without acceptable reasons will not be admitted to the Programme.
Applicants whose original documents have been damaged or misplaced must apply to the relevant organisations/ authorities for replacements or letters of verification.
IMH and DGMS reserve the right to withdraw an offer for Programme admission and cancel enrolment of an applicant whereby the offer was made on the basis of incomplete or inaccurate information supplied by the applicant.
An applicant is only allowed to enrol concurrently in another programme offered by NUS or another University only if granted approval from the Vice Dean of Faculty and the Head of Department. The Degree Programme refers to any programme (including examination-only programmes) which leads to NUS Degree conferment.
Successful applicants will be notified via email to accept the placement and make the Examination/Programme fee payment via the application portal. Placement will be confirmed only after payment receipt. The Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS) is not obliged to provide any reasons for unsuccessful applications.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) will be providing an 80% subsidy of the programme fee to registered doctors, with a valid practising certificate from Singapore Medical Council (SMC), who are applying for this upcoming intake (full Programme enrolment only). The subsidy of SGD4,944.00 will be available to all eligible applicants upon successful completion of the final examination. This refund will be administrated by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).
The early bird rate has been extended to 30 June 2026.

*80% programme fee is not subject to GST. This amount is the subsidy and will be reimbursed to the student after successful completion of the programme.
Notes:
- All fees listed are in Singapore Dollars, including the prevailing Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate unless stated otherwise.
- The Application fee is non-refundable and must be paid at the time of application.
- All payments should be supported by a Tax Invoice (also known as the receipt), which can be downloaded from the system upon successful payment.
- Successful applicants will be notified via email to accept placement. Placement will be confirmed only after a successful payment transaction.
- Acknowledgement of application receipt does not guarantee a placement for the Examination/Programme.
- DGMS reserves all rights to review and adjust fees as necessary and accordingly without prior notice.
This programme is eligible for the SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) scheme.
Important Note:
- You will not be able to use your SFC for the programme if you have already paid for the programme fee in full yourself.
- In view of the potential funding you may receive after successful completion of the programme, the maximum amount of SFC you may claim is $2,409.14.
Steps to submit an SFC claim:
- Upon receiving an offer of admission to the programme, please inform the programme administrator that you intend to use your SkillsFuture Credit in part or in full for the qualifying programme fee.
- The total payable programme fee, after deducting your SFC claim amount, will be reflected in the GDA3 system.
Note: MOH subsidy, application fee and miscellaneous fee (such as book & material fees) are not claimable via SFC. - You are to submit your claim on the MySkillsFuture Portal within 60 days before the programme commencement date (date inclusive).

A 10% administrative fee per Course will be imposed on candidates who wish to defer any Course. Please be informed that this fee is non-refundable. Candidates are required to inform the GDip (Mental Hlth) administrator of the request and fill up the deferment form at least 3 months before the Course start date. The request is subject to the Programme Director’s approval, on a case–by–case basis.
Request for withdrawal must be made in writing to the Programme Director. Policies for course fee refund are as follows:
- 100% refund if the request for Programme withdrawal is made in writing more than 30 calendar^ days before Programme commencement
- 90% refund if the request for Programme withdrawal is made in writing no less than 15 calendar days before Programme commencement
- Strictly no refund on fees if the request for Programme withdrawal is less than 15 calendar days before Programme commencement and/or after the Programme commences
^ Note: Calendar days include Saturday and Sunday.
