Fees

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will be providing an 80% subsidy of the programme fee to registered doctors, with a valid practising certificate from Singapore Medical Council (SMC), who are applying for this upcoming intake (full Programme enrolment only). The subsidy of SGD4,944.00 will be available to all eligible applicants upon successful completion of the final examination.

Fees are stated as per the table below:

*80% programme fee is not subjected to GST. This amount is the subsidy and will be reimbursed to the student after successful completion of the programme.

Notes:

• Payment mode: Invoice will be issued with payment instructions to applicants.
• All fees are inclusive of the prevailing GST and are subject to changes without prior notice.
• Applicants will be notified via email of the payment details after submission of the application.
• Refund of the full fee excluding the application fee will be made if application is not successful.

Funding

The Programme is eligible for the following funding:

1. Claim Skillsfuture credit (SFC) - At the point of programme registration, please inform the programme administrator that you intend to use your SkillsFuture Credit in part or in full for the qualifying programme fee. You should then submit your claim on the MySkillsFuture Portal within 60 days before the programme start date (date inclusive). Please visit the Skillsfuture site for more information.

Programme Objective

The Graduate Diploma in Mental Health [GDip (Mental Hlth)], offered by the Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS), National University of Singapore, in conjunction with Institute of Mental Health (IMH), aims to increase the capability of general practitioners (GPs) in mental health by training them appropriately for the role to detect and treat minor mental health disorders in the community. Students who successfully complete the six Courses and final examination will be awarded the GDip (Mental Hlth).

Programme Structure

The course comprises 6 Courses:

Course 1	Psychosis
Course 2	Mood, Anxiety and Grief
Course 3	Addiction
Course 4	Child and Adolescent Mental Health including Learning Disabilities
Course 5	Psychogeriatrics
Course 6	Personality Disorders and Psychological Therapies

The first month of each Course comprises weekly didactic sessions on Saturday afternoons. In the second month, students will self-study and complete a case write-up. Please click here for the Programme schedule.

The Programme syllabus will be covered either by lecturers and/or in reading materials, video and live supervision, journal discussions, case vignettes, clinical attachments and/or self-study. Clinical attachments will be available with close supervision and guidance from IMH’s doctors.

NUS and IMH reserve the right to make any amendments to the Programme structure and fees without prior notification whatsoever to the parties involved.

Minimum Uptake of Students

The Programme is subject to minimum uptake of 14 students.

CME Points

50 CME points will be awarded to successfully enrolled students who attend all the GDip (Mental Hlth) sessions.

Programme Assessment and Examination

The Programme will be assessed in the following way unless otherwise stated:

The CA component comprises case discussion, case write-up and course examination.

Students must complete the following assignments and/or class participation to be eligible for Course examinations:

• Case write-up (for all Courses )
• 75% classroom attendance (for all Courses)
• Clinical attachments (Applicable to Courses 1, 2, 3 and 4 only)
• Participation in case discussion/ case vignettes/ live supervision (for all Courses)

Students must pass all CA components to be eligible for the final examination. Students who fail to meet the minimum passing criteria for any assessment component in the Course shall re-take the failed Course at the next Programme intake. All students are to complete the Programme/examination within 3-year candidature period.

Eligibility Criteria

1. A recognized basic medical degree qualification registered with the Singapore Medical Council.
2. General Practitioners who have completed housemanship or non-traditional source medical officers.
3. General Practitioners with an interest in Mental Health, including GPs on Mental Health – GP Partnership Programme.

Application

Please submit your application online via Graduate Admission System (GDA2) by the closing date as stipulated above. A step-by-step guide to applying online can be found here. A completed application would have fulfilled the following:

• all required fields are accurately filled and all supporting documents are uploaded into the system
• a unique 10-digit application number is auto-generated by the system (we recommend that you jot down the number for reference)

The programme administrator is not obliged to give reasons for rejected applications. Applicants will be informed by post on the outcome of their application.

The following documents must be submitted in GDA2 by the closing date:

• Recent passport-sized photograph (image has to be 400 x 514 pixels)
• A copy of your CV (employment history; in ascending order)
• At least 2 Testimonials from direct Heads of Department / Supervisors (where applicable)
• Certified true copy / scanned coloured copy of the following documents (Official English translations will be required for stamps or certificates sent that are not in English):
  • Identification documents:
    • NRIC: for locals / Permanent Residents
    • Employment Pass and Passport: for foreigners (residing in Singapore)
  • Recognised basic medical degree
  • Valid practising certificate from SMC
  • Certificate of TOEFL Score, where applicable
  • Certificates of any other qualifications, where applicable
  • Completed Enrollment Form to be uploaded under “Other Form”

Photocopies of certificates and/or official translations (in English)^ including any other official supporting documents will be accepted only if they have been prepared and/or authenticated by one of the following:

• the issuing University or Medical School
• Medical Council of which you are registered and licensed to practice
• Ministry of Health, Singapore;
• a notary public or Justice of the Peace;
• Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS) - For authentication by DGMS office, original certificates and documents must be produced.

^Applicants must submit an authenticated translation if their official supporting documents are not in English. A fresh ink stamp must be used to authenticate the copy or translation of the primary medical qualification.

Applicants who fail to present their original documents for verification without acceptable reasons will not be admitted to the Programme.

Applicants whose original documents have been damaged or misplaced must apply to the relevant organizations/ authorities for replacements or letters of verification.

IMH and DGMS reserve the right to withdraw an offer for Programme admission and cancel enrolment of an applicant whereby the offer was made on the basis of incomplete or inaccurate information supplied by the applicant.

An applicant is only allowed to enrol concurrently in another programme offered by NUS or another University only if granted approval from the Vice Dean of Faculty and the Head of Department. The Degree Programme refers to any programme (including examination-only programmes) which leads to NUS Degree conferment. DGMS is not obliged to provide reasons for unsuccessful applications. Other respective rules/regulations of DGMS apply.

Deferment

A 10% administrative fee per Course of $111.24 (inclusive of GST) will be imposed on candidates who wish to defer any Course. Please be informed that this fee is non-refundable. Candidates are required to inform the GDip (Mental Hlth) administrator of the request and fill up the deferment form at least 3 months before the Course start date. The request is subject to the Programme Director’s approval, on a case–by–case basis.

Withdrawal Policy

Request for withdrawal must be made in writing to the Programme Director. Policies for course fee refund are as follows:

• 100% refund if the request for Programme withdrawal is made in writing more than 30 calendar^# days before Programme commencement
• 90% refund if the request for Programme withdrawal is made in writing no less than 15 calendar days before Programme commencement
• Strictly no refund on fees if the request for Programme withdrawal is less than 15 calendar days before Programme commencement and/or after the Programme commences

# Note: Calendar days include Saturday and Sunday.
