A/Prof Shefaly Shorey selected to be Inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing

2 July 2024

Associate Professor Shefaly Shorey from the National University of Singapore’s Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (NUS Nursing) has been selected to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (Academy). She is the sole academic fellow from Southeast Asia this year.

The Academy is a policy organisation and an honorific society that recognises nursing’s most accomplished leaders in policy, research, practice, administration, and academia, with the aim of advancing equitable solutions to complex health care challenges. Academy Fellows hold a variety of influential roles in health care both in the United States and abroad. Induction into the Fellowship represents more than a recognition of one’s accomplishments within the nursing profession. Fellows contribute their collective expertise to the Academy, engaging with health leaders nationally and globally to improve health and achieve health equity by impacting policy through nursing leadership, innovation, and science.

“The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) Fellowship is a crucial platform for advancing nursing research through various collaborative initiatives. The Fellowship fosters collaboration by organising conferences and workshops, such as the Health Policy conference, which I will attend after receiving my award in November 2024. It also brings together distinguished nursing leaders for joint research and mentorship. Additionally, the AAN’s mentorship opportunities are pivotal in connecting experienced researchers with emerging scholars, a role that I look forward to embracing to support early-career researchers.” A/Prof Shefaly said.

The newest Fellows, selected from a competitive pool of applicants, represent 37 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and 14 countries. Their unique expertise and extensive body of knowledge will soon enhance the collective impact of over 3,000 Academy Fellows to achieve the Academy’s vision of healthy lives for all people.

Associate Professor Shefaly Shorey and the 2024 inductees will be recognised for their substantial, sustained, and significant contributions to health and health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, held from 31 October to 2 November 2024 in Washington, DC. The Induction Ceremony will take place on the evening of 2 November. The theme of this year’s conference is “Courageous Transformations Towards an Equitable Future.”
