International Nurses Day 2022: Message from Professor Emily Ang

2022 theme for International Nurses Day is Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health, highlights the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing professionals who are pillars to strengthen health systems around the world.

The healthcare professionals round the world have made tremendous strides in the battle against the pandemic, with nurses playing critical roles. It is crucial, therefore, that the world sees the need to invest in the nursing profession, protect and support the nurses who work alongside doctors and aid in patients’ recovery.

Global exchange of research, practices and sharing of knowledge are also vital in ensuring that nurses are up to date on the latest nursing practices and protocol.

In tandem with International Nurses’ Day, Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine is pleased to launch its first illustrated graphic novel, “Licence to care” to celebrate the fortitude, determination, and passion of nurse practitioners over the world. This delightful manga chronicles the journey of nursing students pursuing Nursing as a lifelong vocation, how they aid in the fight against Covid-19 and manage the anxiety of working on the frontlines while keeping their families safe too. It is a tribute to all nurses in the world who have stayed the course in caring for their patients above their own needs, through the toil of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With this, I wish everyone a Happy International Nurses Day!

Sincerely,

Emily Ang

Head, Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies
