Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for position of Research Assistant in the Ion Channel and Transporter Lab, Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The candidate will be involved in the investigation of calcium channel alternative splicing and RNA editing using transgenic mouse model and patch-clamp electrophysiological methods for brain slice recordings. Appointments will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for a second year.
The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator, the Director of the NUS Electrophysiology Core, and study team members to ensure the successful completion of work assigned. The RA’s principal role will be to work in patch-clamp electrophysiology (training will be provided), molecular and cell biology and working with rodents as models of health and disease.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will work closely with the PI or the Director of the NUS Electrophysiology Core. The duties include, but are not exclusive to the following:
- Perform patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings on excitable cells such as neurons and muscle cells or on brain slices;
- Conduct experiments employing molecular and cell biological and biochemical methods;
- Conduct imaging studies;
- Contribute to lab duties and other work-related activities;
- Keep records and work done and to present for discussions;
- Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI or Director of NUS Electrophysiology Core
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- Have a first degree with good results or holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or related disciplines;
- Be able to work independently and in a team;
- Have knowledge or skills in basic animal handling or behavioural studies;
- Have experiences in Molecular and Cell Biology and Biochemistry;
- Have experience or willingness to be trained in patch-clamp electrophysiological techniques and brain slice recordings.

The Role
To support the administration and coordination of the 1) upcoming Integrative Health Minor (IHM) slated to launch in AY23/24, 2) Asia-Pacific Biomedical Science Educators Association (APBSEA) founded by NUSMed, and 3) Intercalated Year Programmes (IYPs) and Pathways.
The roles will include:
- Working across medical science departments, College of Design and Engineering (CDE), School of Computing (SOC) and industry partners to support the running and coordination of the IHM modules in particular the Capstone Module in terms of publicity, enrolment, setup and monitoring of teaching-learning activities and learning management system, assessment matters, and feedback and evaluation.
- Working with APBSEA country leads to support the running and coordination of faculty development activities, website maintenance, and all other matters pertaining to APBSEA that may extend the influence of NUSMed.
- Working with partner faculties and universities, MOH, MOE and NUS Senior Management to establish IYPs and monitor outcome through stakeholder-sensing and coordination, proposal-writing and student-tracking.
- Working across NUHS, NUS faculties/schools and external stakeholders to support the running, coordination and outcome-monitoring of Pathways and in relation to UROP.
Job Description
Provide support for Integrative Health Minor (to be launched in AY23/24). Key activities include:
- Publicize the programme when approved
- Handle enrolment of students across NUS
- Coordinate across modules in collaboration with medical science departments, NUHS, CDE, SOC and industry partners
- Handle processes and workflows pertaining to Integrative Health Capstone module
Provide support for NUS-led APBSEA. Key activities include:
- Update and maintenance of website with relevant resources and content
- Coordinate with country leads to organize in-person or virtual faculty development activities
- Monitor general email, update member registry and welcome new members
- Facilitate APBSEA partnership with conferences
- Schedule meetings, write meeting notes and craft appointment and other official letters
Provide support for IYPs, Pathways and UROP. Key activities include:
- Coordinate meetings with partner institutions and schools/faculties, and write notes
- Draft UCEP proposals and coordinate with ministries and senior management
- Organize roadshows and selection processes, and bridge to partner institutions and schools/faculties
- Track, monitor and support students’ transition, progress and exit
- Plan, schedule and organize Pathways especially I&T, working across multiple stakeholders
- Support RO colleagues to curate, match and track projects in terms of funding and outcome, and nudging students towards UROP uptake
Qualifications
- Degree in any field with some background/expertise in communication and education will be advantageous
- Able to communicate well especially in writing
- Strong command of English especially in proposal-writing
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, Teams). Knowledge of website, graphic and media design is a plus
- Knowledge in education design and social media-savviness is a plus
- Meticulous in handling documents and communications
- Sense of urgency with good time management
- Willing and able to reflect and self-learn at reasonable pace

A postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately at the A*STAR IMCB – Laboratory of Chromatin Dynamics & Disease Epigenetics.
Our lab has a long-standing interest in understanding the epigenetic mechanisms of lineage plasticity in early development (Hu et al., Nat Cell Biol. 2020 Feb;22(2):175-186). More recently, we have broadened our investigations to study how cancer cells undergo epigenetic reprogramming to induce phenotypic plasticity. Indeed, chromatin-associated proteins are emerging as new drug targets for a variety of diseases, especially cancer. We are interested to study how chromatin deficiencies underlie human diseases, with a strong focus on therapeutics development. We employ varied experimental approaches such as Next-Generation Sequencing, genome-editing, genetic/chemical screens as well as cancer models (PDXs, tumor organoids etc) to address our questions of interest. The postdoc candidate will conduct research to identify novel chromatin targets for downstream therapeutics development, and will work closely with our clinical collaborators at major hospitals and drug development colleagues at A*STAR EDDC.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with relevant training in cancer research, biochemistry or related fields. Candidates with prior experience in epigenetic technologies, chromatin biology, drug development, genetic screens and/or animal experimentation will be considered favourably.
Specific requirements:
(1) Possess a Ph.D in relevant field.
(2) Good publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
(3) Expertise in routine cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques

The research aims to investigate mechanisms of neuronal aging using reprogrammed neurons.
Purpose of the post
The Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) will be responsible to, and work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), other members of the laboratory as well as scientific collaborators to ensure the successful completion of the project. We seek an enthusiastic and self-motivated research fellow to join our team.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be responsible for the following:
· Be proactive in driving the project, working closely with the PI and other members of the laboratory as well as clinical and scientific collaborators to ensure the generation and collection of appropriate data
· Be updated on the latest literature on the research focus and how our research can help fill the gaps in knowledge or provide solutions
· Be responsible for analyzing, integrating and presenting data collected from the various research efforts and to develop new tools for analyses as required
· Train/Teach juniors in the laboratory as well as attachment students
· Presentation of data to lab members and collaborators during regular meetings
· Write reports
· Write manuscripts for publication consideration on research
· Write and/or assist in writing grants for continued support of research

Qualifications
The applicant should have a PhD in Life Sciences or related disciplines with a background in neurobiology and expertise in ageing biology preferable.
· Expertise in working with cell culture; experience with human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), and or iPSCs and their differentiation in neuronal cell lineages is highly desirable
· Experience in high-resolution time-lapse in vivo cellular and molecular imaging
· Competency in molecular biology, biochemical and microscopic techniques
· Excellent writing and presentation skills
· Ability to work independently and on team projects

Applicants should hold a basic science degree in Biology. During the Ph.D. candidature, students should expect to acquire knowledge and skills in various areas, including stem cell and differentiation assays, molecular cloning, lentiviral-mediated gene (or shRNA) delivery, realtime qRT-PCR, western blotting, indirect immunofluorescence microscopy, transcriptomic analysis and intracranial injection experiments.
