Seminars & Fireside chats
Trailblazer Research Series (Special Edition)- Prof Michael Inouye
The last 10 years have seen the emergence of predictive models based on genetics which quantify an individual’s genetic predisposition for a specific trait or disease. In this talk, I will present our latest research in the construction, cataloging and translation of polygenic scores for common diseases. I will also cover examples of integrating polygenic scores with multi-omics data to enhance clinical risk prediction models and to understand putative molecular mediators of polygenic disease with a focus on coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes.
Trailblazer Research Series- Prof Paul MacAry
Professor Paul MacAry is a globally recognised immunologist and leader in antibody biology. His research has shown that antibodies actively influence immune responses, changing how we understand infection, cancer, ageing, and inflammation. These findings have led to new advances in therapeutics, biomarkers, and immune profiling. We celebrate his trailblazing achievements in partnership with the Professorial Lecture series honouring newly promoted Professors.
Trailblazer Research Series (Special Edition)- A/Prof Christoffer Clemmensen
Associate Professor Clemmensen studies how the central nervous system regulates energy balance and metabolic health, translating molecular insights into therapies for cardiometabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. He has published over 100 papers in top journals, including Nature, Cell, and Science. In 2022, he co-founded Ousia Pharma, developing peptide–drug conjugates for next-generation weight-loss therapies, and is an ERC Consolidator Grant awardee advancing metabolic therapeutics. Join us to discover how he transforms biology into groundbreaking therapies.
Rising Star Research Seminar Series- Asst Prof Liu Boxiang
Despite over a million genome-wide association study (GWAS) risk variants being identified, translating genetic associations into therapies remains a major challenge. Join Asst Prof Liu, a rising star in genomic medicine, as he shares how his work combines single-cell analyses across diverse Asian populations with integrated genetic approaches like cell-type-specific QTLs, ensemble, and LocusCompare2, to enhance the identification of disease-driving genes and accelerate the discovery of novel therapeutic targets across populations.
Trailblazer Research Series- Prof Matthew Chang
Professor Chang stands at the forefront of synthetic biology, engineering programmable biological functions to uncover the fundamental design principles of living systems and enable transformative biotechnological applications. As Executive Director of Singapore’s National Centre for Engineering Biology and Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Synthetic Biology Council, he advances synthetic biology to drive breakthroughs in health, sustainability, and biomanufacturing. With more than 140 publications and numerous international accolades, be inspired as he shares the vision, curiosity, and determination that fuel his pioneering journey in shaping the future of biotechnology. https://synbiolab.org
Trailblazer Research Series (Special Edition)- Prof Edison Liu
25 years after the delivery of the first human genome draft, and 73 years after the discovery of DNA structure, we are entering a new phase of genetic sciences. Predictive medicine will become a reality through the creation of virtual models of any biological entity – digital twins
Rising Star Research Seminar Series- Asst Prof Chunyi Hu
Dr Hu explores RNA-guided systems beyond CRISPR, uncovering nature’s hidden codes and transforming them into powerful molecular tools. His research combines structural biology, protein engineering, AI, and therapeutic development, with applications ranging from treating diseases to preparing for future pandemics. Join our Presidential Young Professor awardee to discover how his breakthroughs in genome editing, diagnostics, and next-generation therapies are pushing the frontiers of biology and inspiring a new era of discovery.
Trailblazer Research Series- Prof Zhang Cuilin
Showcasing pioneering research from distinguished scientists shaping the future of medicine. A platform to exchange ideas, explore new perspectives, and inspire breakthrough discoveries.
Rising Star Research Seminar Series- A/Prof Thomas Yeo
Associate Professor Yeo is a rising star in neuroscience and neuroengineering, renowned for pioneering large-scale brain network mapping and personalized brain models. His research has revealed key insights into the organization and individual variability of the human brain, advancing precision medicine and the treatment of brain disorders. By integrating advanced neuroimaging, computational modeling, and machine learning, A/Prof Yeo has set new standards in the field. He has received the Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM) Early Career Investigator Award, the National Research Foundation (NRF) Fellowship, and the NRF Investigatorship. Join us for this series spotlighting rising stars shaping the future of research.
Trailblazer Research Series- Prof Ashok Venkitaraman
Professor Venkitaraman has driven translational innovation through drug discovery platforms, and led international initiatives and institutions. Let us hear from him, as we explore what it means to pioneer global impact in Cancer Research.
