A group of surgeons from NUH recently performed the first holography-guided heart surgery in Singapore. Using holographic visors, a 3D hologram of a patient’s 3D CT scan is projected into space and superimposed onto the patient’s chest during surgery. This tech may be able to provide surgeons with the opportunity to familiarise with the patient’s anatomy, chart a course in the patient’s heart valves or through the blood vessels, allowing surgeons to better understand the complexities of the patient’s anatomy, particularly impactful in paediatric patients with inherited anomalies and congenital heart defects.
