Will GAGNON
William is the Head of Implementation at the Centre for Sustainable Medicine.
Formerly at Doctors Without Borders as an Energy Transition Advisor, he helped the organization decarbonize its electrical production, built facilities, and vehicles. In Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Uganda, he learned that decarbonization cannot compromise safety, security, or patient care.
He delved in net-zero buildings during a bachelor of building engineering (Concordia University), and pursued graduate research in bioresource engineering (McGill University). He holds two LEED professional accreditations, and studied climate and leadership at Harvard, Cornell, Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (Canada), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), and University College Cork (Ireland).
Prior to moving to Singapore in 2024 to join NUS CoSM, William, a French Canadian, was living in Yellowknife, Canada. In August 2023, he and more than 25k residents of Northwest Territories, including a 100-bed hospital, were evacuated more than 1,500 km away due to several out-of-control wildfires, for 3 weeks.
William facilitated and spoke about climate, and LGBTQAI+ issues at conferences in Canada, the USA, Spain, Sweden, Holland, China, Greenland, Scotland, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2018, he was named #Top30Under30 Sustainability Leaders by Corporate Knights Magazine.
