About Tan Ean Kiam Foundation
The late Mr Tan Ean Kiam became a successful rubber magnate and banker despite having little formal education. He was among the group of Hokkien merchants who established the Oversea Chinese Bank. He led a merger with two other banks to ensure its survival, and its metamorphosis into Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC). Upon his passing, Mr Tan left a sizeable bequest to the Tan Ean Kiam Foundation in which funds various charitable causes including educational projects.
The former Chairman of the Tan Ean Kiam Foundation, the late Mr Tan Tock San, son of its founder, Mr Tan Ean Kiam, had continued his father’s philanthropic model of contributing to the society through donations to charities, especially those involved in education, health and heritage preservation. The Foundation’s support in the form of donations has continued to benefit schools as well as many needy charities and deserving groups.
Mr Tan Keng Soon, current Chairman of the Tan Ean Kiam Foundation, and grandson of its founder, says: "recognising talented young men and women and building leaders for Singapore is the reason that the Foundation is supporting Medical Grand Challenge. We look forward to the contributions and service from these competent and compassionate doctors of tomorrow.”
In addition to Medical Grand Challenge, in 2015, the Foundation has established the Tan Ean Kiam Medical Bursary in NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine to provide financial aid for undergraduate medical students.
