Dr. Ronald Paul Ng, MBBS, FRCP(E), FRCP(G) is a retired clinical haematologist from Mt. Elizabeth Hospital. Prior to that, he was Senior Lecturer in Clinical Haematology, first at University College Hospital Medical School, London University, then later at Hong Kong University, before moving to Singapore in 1984 and entered private practice. He was a member of the Singapore National Medical Research Council when that was first set up in 1994. He is now on one of the CIRBs of SingHealth Group. He is also a Principal Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Center, and a Volunteer Court Mediator, having been awarded the Outstanding Court Volunteer Award (Open Category) for 2024. He has done more than 150 MOOCs, mainly on Coursera and edX, on subjects ranging from philosophy, to astronomy, literature, Machine Learning, and artificial intelligence. Though his publications were mainly on haematology, but there is one unusual paper, “Computer Aided Diagnosis in Liver Disease”, before the current buzz on AI, was published in 1980 with him writing the program for that study. Bringing everything together, medicine, ethics, mediation, and AI, his interest is now mainly in the area of ethics in the use of AI in medicine, and the effect on empathy in the clinical situation.
