Who Should Attend
Open to all practising doctors in Singapore. Please note that only doctors registered in Singapore are eligible to sign up for this course.
Why Attend
This programme brings biomedical ethics to the forefront of every doctor’s practice, fostering ethical decision-making and professional integrity throughout the healthcare system.
The programme offers accredited Mandatory Medical Ethics (MME) CME points, a core requirement for all practising doctors in Singapore. Doctors must earn 5 MME CME points every two years to renew their Practising Certificate.

Programme Structure
The programme features three expertly curated topics that explore essential dimensions of biomedical ethics, designed to meet the real-world challenges and professional responsibilities of today’s medical practitioners.
Personalised Learning
Participants may choose to register for specific topics that align with their clinical interests and areas of practice by providing a pay-to-access option for any of the three topics.
Assessment & Credits
Participants will earn 1 MME CME point per topic. You must complete the full 60-minute video and score at least 75% of the online quiz.
Learning Platform & Materials
After successful registration, participants will receive an email within three working days containing detailed information on accessing the learning materials on NUS Learning Management System and completing the requirements to earn MME points. Each topic includes a pre-recorded video lecture, presentation slides, compulsory online quiz, and/or curated reading materials to support deeper understanding and application.

The access fee per topic is $32.70 (inclusive of 9% GST). This fee provides access to exclusive topic selections.

Educator: Professor Julian Savulescu
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify and understand the range of practices involved in end-of-life care: withholding and withdrawing life sustaining treatment; palliative sedation; voluntary assisted suicide and voluntary assisted euthanasia.
- Understand and evaluate the key ethical concepts involved in end-of-life care: brain death, autonomy, medical futility, professionalism, doctrine of double effect, intention versus foresight distinction, role of the family in medical decision making, respecting family beliefs and cultures.
- Evaluate and compare ethical frameworks and solutions for preparing for end-of-life (advance care directives and do-not-resuscitate orders) and resolving treatment conflicts (e.g., withdrawing life sustaining treatment from a patient without capacity to consent).
- Apply key ethical concepts and frameworks to various end-of-life case studies.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
• Recognise key and commonly arising ethical challenges that arise in the care of older patients across different health settings and across different care pathways.
• Understand how established principles for medical ethics should be interpreted and applied correctly in the medical care and treatment of older adults.
• Apply structured ethical reasoning and develop practical strategies for clinicians to address ethical challenges, in ways that are responsive to the cultural and legal landscape of Singapore’s ageing society.
• Reflect critically on the role of new technologies, medical interventions, and healthcare policies in shaping ethical healthcare practices for older adults, including AI, precision medicine, and healthy longevity.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognise key legal and ethical developments in recent court and disciplinary tribunal decisions that have implications for clinical practice.
- Understand the practical relevance of the legal cases, how these cases illustrate common pitfalls and emerging risks in medical decision-making and professional conduct.
- Reflect on how the principles and precedents from these cases can inform safer, more ethically sound practice.
- Enhance awareness of the legal and ethical boundaries of practice, and the consequences of breaching them.
