Profile

Marthe joined the CBmE in December 2022 as a research fellow. Her research focuses on public perceptions of data governance in genomics and precision medicine research. She previously worked on ethical questions relating to new biomedical developments, such as expensive gene therapies, medical treatments that consist of genetically modified viruses and diagnostics tests aimed to diagnose incurable diseases in earlier stages.

She previously worked for the Netherlands Committee on Genetic Modification (COGEM), the Medical Ethics and Philosophy department of the Erasmus Medical Center and the Neurology department of the Radboud University Medical Center. Marthe obtained her PhD degree based on a thesis that revolved around the question whether biological risks testing for Alzheimer’s disease should be used in clinical practice. As a PhD-student, Marthe was the chair of the PhD council of the Dutch Research School of Philosophy (OZSW). She has a Master of Science degree in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Amsterdam and a Master of Arts degree in philosophy from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
