Profile

Dr Shariff works across family practice and palliative medicine in Singapore, with a clinical practice spanning community-based generalist care, preventive health, sexual health, psychosocial care, serious illness communication, and home-based palliative care. He currently serves as a Senior Resident Physician at HCA Hospice, where he cares for patients with advanced illness in the home setting and supports families through complex decision-making and end-of-life care. His broader clinical experience in internal medicine, medical oncology, and paediatrics has shaped his interest in caring for patients across the illness trajectory.

At the National University of Singapore, Dr Shariff is an Adjunct Lecturer with the Centre for Biomedical Ethics, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, where he contributes to undergraduate medical ethics teaching. His undergraduate teaching also includes communication skills and healthcare simulation, reflecting his interest in how clinicians learn to navigate complex conversations in practice. He is also involved in postgraduate palliative care education through the Graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine, where he serves as a committee member and educator.

He holds the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP(UK)) and a Graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine, and is currently pursuing further training in mental health. His professional interests include clinical ethics, communication, end-of-life decision-making, grief and bereavement, equity in healthcare, healthcare education, and patient-centred care across community and specialist settings. Across his clinical and teaching work, he is particularly interested in how ethical reflection, thoughtful mentorship, and inclusive learning environments can support compassionate, practical care in everyday clinical encounters.
