Profile

Dr Nicola Ngiam graduated from the National University of Singapore and subsequently attained higher academic qualifications in the Masters of Medicine in Paediatrics (NUS) and MRCPCH (UK). She received postgraduate training in the field of Paediatric Critical Care at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She is currently the Director of the Standardized Patient Program and Deputy Director of the Centre for Healthcare Simulation, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore as well as a senior consultant in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children’s Medical Institute, National University Health System. She is involved in developing paediatric palliative care services at NUHS.

She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education for healthcare professionals in the field of paediatrics and communication skills. She has a special interest in standardized patient training, teaching of communication skills, the use of simulation-based teaching methods and medical humanities. She has experience with implementing narrative medicine as an educational tool in medical education.
