Prof Tikki Pang

Visiting Professor, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore

Professor Tikki Pang (Pangestu) is a Visiting Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He was previously a Visiting Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS (2012-2020) after spending 13 years as Director of Research Policy & Cooperation at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland (1999-2012). At the WHO, he helped establish an International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP), an Evidence-Informed Policy Network (EVIPNet), a Guidelines Review Committee (GRC), Ethics Review Committee and was Secretary of the WHO Advisory Committee for Health Research (ACHR). Previous to his time at the WHO, he spent 22 years as an academic at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the Faculty of Medicine and the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (1977-1999).

Professor Pang holds a PhD in microbiology/immunology from the Australian National University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK), American Academy of Microbiology (USA) and the Malaysian Academy of Medicine. He previously served as Chair of the Board of the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA) and the Southeast Asia Community Observatory (SEACO).

He has published more than 300 scientific articles and was lead author on several major WHO reports including the World Health Report 2013: Research for Universal Health Coverage (2013), Knowledge for Better Health (2004) and Genomics and World Health (2002). His main research interests are in infectious diseases, immunization, global health & its governance, evidence to policy processes, health research systems, biosecurity and pandemic preparedness.
