N2CR PhD Graduate Scholarship
Upon successful admission to the N2CR PhD Graduate Programme, students will be awarded the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine NUS Research Scholarship which is tenable for up to four years of the students’ candidature.
Intake for August 2024 is closed.
Admission Criteria/Eligibility
Open to local (Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents only) applicants with:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (1stClass or 2nd Upper Class Honours) in the areas of Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine and Life Sciences, or
- A MBBS or MD Degree Holder
Scholarship Package
Monthly stipend and full research tuition fee subsidy up to 4 years.
N2CR scholars will also receive allowances such as – purchase of laptop, software subscriptions, registration fees for local conferences and travel grant for overseas conferences.
* Travel grant for overseas conferences will be according to NUS policy.
With effect from 1 January 2024, monthly stipend is as follows:

PhD scholars will get additional stipend of $500 per month after passing the qualifying examinations subject to the scholar’s good performance.
*With additional employer’s CPF contribution of 17%.

Submission of Application
Please email to Officer-in charge if you are interested in applying for the N2CR PhD Graduate Programme – August 2024 intake. Kindly indicate the E-mail Subject as “Application for N2CR PhD Graduate Programme – August 2024″.
Detailed instructions on the application process will be followed up upon receiving email from interested applicants.
Note: please do not apply directly through the School of Medicine application process unless invited to do so.
Supporting Documents Required
Please note the following when applying for the studentship as per instructions from the Officer-in-Charge:
- Transcript
An official transcript of academic records is required from each university you have attended. You are responsible for requesting the transcript(s) from the relevant University. Graduates from NUS can submit copies of their result slips or official transcripts of their academic records. - GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
GRE is compulsory for all applicants. Exemption will be given to graduates who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree with Honors (Distinction and above) from NUS and graduates who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree with Honors (Highest Distinction) from NTU/SUTD/SMU.
A minimum total GRE score of 320 for the verbal and quantitative sections and 3.5 for the Analytical section is required. - Referee Reports
Recommendations from 2 academic referees are to be submitted. You should check with your referees and obtain their institutional e-mail address. E-mail addresses from domains other than “.edu” may be subjected to additional screening and filtering. Please request your referees to send in the recommendation letter directly to the Officer-in-Charge. - Publications
Please submit a copy of each of your publication(s), if any. The journal’s “Impact Factor” field (which allows input of up to one decimal point) is essentially a measure of scientific impact that is based on citation rates for an article or other citable item. It also takes into account the significance of the journals in which result has been published. Please leave it blank if you are unsure. - All supporting documents which are not in English must be accompanied by an official certified English translation.
- Supporting documents submitted are non-returnable.
- Shortlisted candidates may be required to submit other documents for review.

Correspondences from the University
The University will correspond with you primarily using e-mail during the application process to convey messages such as requesting for outstanding documents, interview notification etc. Hence, it is very important that you provide a valid and correct e-mail address and maintain your e-mail account regularly. The University will not be responsible for undeliverable e-mails and their consequences.
Application for August 2024 Intake – CLOSED
The application for August 2024 intake will open from 1 November 2023 to 31 January 2024.
If you have submitted the completed application (with all the required documents) before the application closing date, your application will be processed and you will be informed officially of the outcome of your application in writing latest by May 2024.
Rejection of Application
Inaccurate or false information or omission of material information or no application fee (to be paid once invited to apply online) payment will render your application invalid. The University reserves the right to reject applications that are incomplete or inaccurate. Persons admitted on the basis of inaccurate or false information may be expelled. The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake graduate student recruitment on its behalf. The School reserves the rights to reject any applications without giving reasons.
Application Fees
Payment of application fee is to be made only if invited to apply on-line. The non-refundable application fee is payable for each programme and department you apply for. Online application – S$50 per application (inclusive of prevailing GST)
Outcome of Application
Applicants for the August 2024 intake will be notified of the outcome by May 2024.
