Professor Rickie Patani joins the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine) as a Professor of Neuroscience in the Departments of Medicine and Anatomy from August 2025. He will also take on the role of Director of the Neurobiology Programme at the Life Sciences Institute at NUS.
Recently elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof Patani is a distinguished physician‑scientist with over a decade of research experience in neurodegeneration, particularly in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models. His work has significantly advanced understanding of RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) metabolism and cellular autonomy in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.
He has received multiple prestigious awards for his research, including the Brain Sciences Young Investigator Award, International 3Rs Prize, Paulo Gontijo Prize in Medicine, Graham Bull Prize, and Goulstonian Lectureship from the Royal College of Physicians. He is also a recipient of the Lister Research Prize.
In addition to his research and clinical roles, Prof Patani contributes to the scientific community through service on several influential panels, including the MRC Neuroscience and Mental Health Board, MRC Training and Careers Strategy Board, and the MND Association Funding Panel.
