Research Assistant
(The Eye N’ Brain Research Group)
Job Purpose
The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant. The candidate will be working under the Eye N’ Brain Research Group, Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS.
Myopia is reaching epidemic magnitudes in Asia, and especially in Singapore. The Eye N’ Brain Research Group are developing and testing novel light-based strategies for safe and passive myopia prevention and control. In this project, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a school-based trial focused on evaluating a novel therapy for myopia prevention and control. Collaborating closely with scientists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, educators, child psychologists and public health experts, the candidate will contribute to the advancement of innovative approaches to myopia prevention and control in Singapore and the world.
Appointments will be made on a yearly contract basis, renewable up to 3 years.
The Research Assistant will be responsible to, and work closely with the Principal Investigator to provide research and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of projects in a timely manner.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct the study in accordance with DSRB and hospital regulations
- Provide administrative support to the project, such as organising regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team, ensure research agreements are in order, and collaborate with other study sites
- Attend investigator meeting(s)
- Prepare for study initiation
- Screen, recruit, and schedule participants for the study
- Obtain voluntary participant’s consent
- Guide participants on the protocol expectations
- Perform study/protocol procedures in a detailed, accurate manner where applicable
- Collect data
- Perform ophthalmic examinations (Visual acuity test, etc.)
- Ensure proper record keeping of the clinical study documentations
- Maintain data records and study files
Job Requirements
- An Optometrist (preferred)/Optician Bachelor’s Degree
- The ability to communicate well and work in a team
- Experience in a clinical research setting
- Experience in conducting ophthalmic examinations
- The ability to work independently and have an investigative nature
- Attention to details
- Good writing and communication skills
- Good event planning skill
