Dr Chew completed her PhD at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is the youngest nurse in Singapore to have obtained her PhD. Dr Chew is also the first nurse to have received training in the Stanford Biodesign methodology as a Singapore Biodesign Innovation Fellow FY23/24, which included training in regional and global centers such as Beijing and the United States.
Dr Chew’s research focuses on using just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAI) to improve lifestyle behaviors for primary and secondary cardiometabolic disease prevention, with a special focus on implementation science. She has developed multiple self-regulation programs including an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted behavioral prediction and prevention system for personalised weight management. She is a recipient of multiple international awards including the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) talent award, in recognition of her research work.
Dr Chew has published over 70 internationally peer-reviewed articles in journals with high impact factors and has been awarded more than SDG 2 million worth of research funding. Dr Chew is the associate editor for JBI Evidence Implementation and is an editorial board member of Nature – Scientific Reports. She is also a member of the Singapore Association for the Study of Obesity, NUHS Obesity workgroup, NUS Nursing Department Ethics Review Committee and NUS Nursing Informatics Workgroup.
As an educator, Dr Chew leads courses on research methods and evidence implementation in healthcare both at the undergraduate and PhD levels, emphasizing the importance of innovation. She is the founder of the Singapore Nursing Innovation Group (SNIG), which is currently focused on cultivating a culture of innovation among nursing students. Dr Chew enjoys sharing her knowledge with, nurturing, and inspiring the nursing leaders of tomorrow. She is also a member of the Singapore Nurses Association Education Committee.
