DBMI Guest Speakers 2026
[Pictured L-R: Dr Loo Jia Min, Dr Low Joo Leng and Dr Judice Koh]
Earlier in April, our Biomedical Informatics students had the privilege of attending a guest lecture with distinguished speakers from medical R&D sector.
Dr Loo Jia Min (Associate Director) presented on his personal journey into drug development, covering topics including the drug discovery process, high-throughput drug screening as well as the practical uses of AI in drug discovery. He then joined Dr Low Joo Leng (Senior Research Scientist) on a fireside chat moderated by DBMI Faculty Dr Judice Koh.
A huge thank you to Dr Loo and Dr Low for sharing their invaluable time and expertise with our MSc in BMI students.
In April, DBMI Faculty Dr Oh Han Boon organised and coordinated a series of guest lectures for minor programme students taking the BMI3201C (Clinical Data System Design Testing and Governance) course.
Day 1: Dr Lim Er Luen and Mr Linus Loo - An introduction to clinical information
Day 2: Dr Aung Myint Oo - Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS), orders entry, structured, unstructured data
Day 3: Dr Benjamin Ho on Cybersecurity and Dr Jason Chen on Data privacy, health IT in Singapore and Next Generation Electronic Medical Record (NGEMR)
These sessions offered an invaluable deep dive into the "how" of modern healthcare delivery. From the ethics of data privacy to the mechanics of NGEMR, our students now have a much clearer roadmap of how their studies apply to the real world.
Our appreciation to the guest experts for taking time to share their expertise and help build the next generation of biomedical informaticians!
We hope to bridge more opportunities for our students to hear directly from industry leaders who are at the forefront of a digitally ready workforce in the healthcare industry - these insights truly help them understand how their studies translate into real-world impact.
