The purpose of CRIHSP policy briefings is to distil the latest trends and evidence on important policy issues for health and care systems, bringing timely and relevant recommendations to the attention of policymakers to support decision-making both in Singapore and internationally. Our policy briefings are informed through rigorous evidence synthesis and then discussed and debated through a series of policy dialogues with senior decision-makers, international experts, health professionals and end users. They aim to present research and recommendations to a non-specialist audience, making clear recommendations for current and future policy initiatives.

Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) are self-report instruments that reflect a patient’s own views on their health and illness. This policy brief will examine the growth of PROMs implementation strategies globally and summarise the evidence for PROMs in improving health system outcomes at the patient- institutional- and system-levels. Ongoing policy dialogues will examine the key policy issues and questions related to the future implementation and roll-out of PROMs as a means for promoting higher value health systems.

Social prescribing is a means to identify people’s non-medical, health related social needs and is an important global initiative to address the social determinants of health. This policy briefing examines how social prescribing shows considerable promise for improving people’s health and wellbeing but argues that more research and international coordination is needed to most appropriately position social prescribing within health systems. With considerable variation in how social prescribing has and can be adopted in policy and practice, the policy briefing sets an agenda for an ongoing policy dialogue.
