Prof. Chen is a world-leading molecular imaging/therapy and nanomedicine researcher. He has published over 1000 papers (total citations > 130,000, H Index >190)

He is the founding editor of journal Theranostics (current IF 12.4), and sits on the editorial board of a number of prestigious journals such as Acc Chem Res, ACS Nano, Bioconjug Chem, Bioeng Transl Med, J Nucl Med, Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging, etc.

Prof. Chen’s achievements have been well recognized as illustrated by him receiving a number of prestigious awards, including the JNB Trailblazer Award (2023), Michael J. Welch Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (2019), the ACS Bioconjugate Chemistry Lectureship Award (2016), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director’s Award (2014), and National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) Mentor Award (2012). In particular, the Michael J. Welch, PhD Award represents the highest honor bestowed on recognizing individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of radiopharmaceutical sciences, have been involved in mentoring students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty, and have been involved in community service to the field of radiopharmaceutical chemistry and molecular imaging.

Prof. Chen is also a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and a fellow of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).
