Prof. Khong is a clinician-scientist and Professor of Radiology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the National University of Singapore, then went on to obtain specialist degrees in Radiology in Hong Kong (FHKCR, FHKAM) and the United Kingdom (FRCR). She completed a post-graduate Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from the University of Hong Kong, for which she was awarded the Sir Patrick Manson Gold Medal for outstanding merit for her MD thesis. For her sub-specialty training, she trained in Paediatric Radiology at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK, the Boston Children’s Hospital, USA, and Hybrid PET-CT in Oncology at the University Hospital Zurich.
Prof. Khong’s research interest started with paediatric neuroradiology, in particular, the paediatric applications of diffusion-weighted and diffusion-tensor MR imaging. From 2007, she focussed on Oncological Imaging, establishing hybrid-PET and molecular imaging in The University of Hong Kong where she served as the Head of Department of Diagnostic Radiology between 2008-2021. In particular, her research was on paediatric cancers, lymphomas and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. As Director of the Clinical Imaging Research Center, Professor Khong will continue her research on molecular imaging and embark on the evaluation of the clinical translation of novel tracers and theranostics.
Prof. Khong’s expertise has led to her being elected to leadership roles of various radiology societies, including Honorary Member of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), Fellow and Board of Trustees of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society (ICIS) and President Elect (2024), Executive Board member of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), and former committee member of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). She has presented at over 100 conferences, symposia, and courses, and given many plenary and keynote lectures, both regionally and globally. She has authored over 240 publications, many of which have been well cited.
