Mfsd2b and Spns2 are essential for maintenance of blood vessels during development and in anaphylactic shock

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in Singapore, with hemorrhagic stroke being the most deadly form. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a potent lipid mediator secreted by several cell types and is involved in several important biological pathways. Assistant Prof Nguyen Nam Long was involved in a study which showed the importance of extracellular S1P in blood for the development and maturation of blood vessels. This study also shows that augmenting blood S1P levels is beneficial for blood vessel-related diseases.
