We were honoured to host Prof. James Rutka, world-renowned neurosurgeon and Chair of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto, during his visit to the Institute for Digital Health (WisDM). Prof. Rutka, a leading figure in pediatric neurosurgery and brain tumor research at SickKids, was welcomed by Dr. Toh Tan Boon, Head of the Translational Core Lab. During the visit, Dr. Toh shared the lab’s ongoing work in functional precision oncology, highlighting the use of patient-derived models to study cancer heterogeneity, resistance mechanisms, and optimize drug combinations for difficult-to-treat cancers.
