Biostatistics

Background

The NUS Medicine Biostatistics Unit (BSU) was formed in July 2004 when Dr Chan Yiong Huak was recruited to provide biostatistics advice to the academics in the then Faculty of Medicine, and clinicians in the National University Hospital. The unit has since grown with a current staff strength of 6 biostatisticians.

Aim

The primary objective of BSU is to enhance the quality of research and biostatistical knowledge of the medical community through collaborations on research projects and biostatistical training courses.

Our Services

  • Statistical consultation: Provide consultations on study design of clinical research including clinical trials and epidemiology studies, sample size calculation, and statistical analysis plan. (Can be shorten as: Study design, sample size calculation, statistical analysis plan preparation)
  • Research collaboration: Collaborate for research projects as a biostatistical counterpart, perform the statistical analysis, and prepare statistics related section for publications in peer-reviewed journals. (Can be shorten as: data analysis, result interpretation, manuscript preparation)
  • Statistical education: Teach MDG5108 and MCI5002 for post-graduate programs, conduct workshops and training courses on research methodology, and biostatistics. (Can be shorten as: Conduct core course for post-graduate program, workshop and short talk about research methodology, basic, intermediate, and advanced biostatistics)
  • Grant enhancement: Review and improve the statistical methodology for research proposals.
