Biostatistics
Background
The NUS Medicine Biostatistics Unit (BSU) was established in July 2004 under the leadership of Dr. Chan Yiong Huak with the mission to provide biostatistics expertise and support to academics within the Faculty of Medicine and clinicians at the National University Hospital. Over the years, the unit has expanded, currently comprising a team of four dedicated biostatisticians.
Aim
The primary objective of the BSU is to elevate the quality of research and enhance biostatistical knowledge within the medical community. This is achieved through collaborative research projects and the provision of biostatistical training courses.
Our Services
- Statistical Consultation: We offer consultations on study design for clinical research, including clinical trials and epidemiology studies, as well as assistance with sample size calculation, preparation of statistical analysis plans, statistical analysis methodology, and rebuttal for grant applications and publications.
- Research Collaboration: We can be contacted to collaborate on research projects as a biostatistical counterpart. We provide the full statistical support from study design, proposal preparation, data analysis, and drafting the statistics-related sections for publication in peer-reviewed journals. We also collaborate with the research for running statistical analysis only.
- Statistical Education: We co-ordinate and teach courses: MDG5108 and ABM5002 for postgraduate programs, give lectures for several master programs, conduct workshops, and offer training courses on research methodology and biostatistics at various levels—basic, intermediate, and advanced.
- Grant Enhancement: We review and enhance the statistical methodology, sample size calculation and statistical analysis planned for research proposals, ensuring robustness and accuracy.
