Won the Top Prize of the NUSMed Safety Day Video Competition on 24 Jan 2024
To promote Total Workplace Safety and Health by supporting the NUSMed Safety Day 2024’s video competition with our entry "Work Safely and Live Healthier“ which focused on the Total Workplace Safety and Health (Total WSH) approach.

CarePack 2020
PAEDS & HIP teams launched a combined CarePack initiative to promote the well-being of staff and graduate-students in the Department of Paediatrics during COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative aimed to boost the morale, mental & physical well-being during this challenging time.
Items in the CarePack: Granola bars, Soya bean drink, Vitamin C supplements, hand sanitizer and YLLSoM lanyard.
Date of distribution: 29th October 2020.
Face Mask Distribution During COVID Pandemic
In anticipation of the return to work after the Circuit Breaker in June 2020, HIP-SHIP prepared and equipped the Department with the needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. hand sanitizers and face masks), a challenging task when such resources were scarce then.
The Emergency Preparedness team subsequently took over the routine provision of face masks to continue the Department's effort to protect staff and graduate-students against Covid-19 while at work.
Once every 2 months, one box of face mask (containing 50 pcs) was distributed to each staff and students.
Date of mask distribution: 2/6/2020, 16/7/2020, 10/9/2020, 23/11/2020, 5/1/2021, 3/3/2021,10/5/2021, 13/7/2021

Promote Active Lifestyles & Team Engagement through Weekly Skipping Exercises
Edible Garden Visit
We hosted an 'Open House' on May 29, 2025, for the Paediatrics Green Team’s Edible Garden. Through green-finger initiatives, we hope to inspire participation in outdoor activities and emphasize the benefits of green spaces, such as improved eye health and relaxation. Taking short breaks in these environments offers a welcome opportunity to de-stress and recharge.
Sound Bath Session
A Seated Sound Bath Session, led by colleague Bee Leng, was held on 27 June 2025 at the MD1 Level 5 Seminar Room. Staff members who attended the session experienced a calming, meditative session using crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, and rain sticks.
Participants also had a chance to try the instruments themselves. The session received very positive feedback—85% felt more relaxed afterward, and 100% expressed interest in future sessions and would recommend it to colleagues.

To improve engagement by shifting the focus from safety-related topics to healthy eating and mental wellness. This will also be in line with Department T-WSH (Total Workplace Safety and Health) initiatives and promotes overall well-being among staff.
3 Fruit Distribution to all Paediatrics Personnel to Promote Healthy Living and Wellness
The HIP SHIP team aims to promote healthy living, mental well-being, as well as encourage healthy eating in the laboratory community by organizing fruit pack distribution exercises.

It also aimed to encourage everyone to go Green to help reduce plastic waste during packing food in view of safe management measures.
Flu Vaccination (Northern Hemisphere) (Oct/ Nov 2020)
Following the success of our first flu vaccination exercise launched in Jul/ Aug 2020, this is the second flu vaccination exercise organised for Department of Paediatrics' laboratory community. Similar to the earlier exercise, all vaccination cost were covered by the Department.
Flu vaccination exercise was conducted from 26 Oct to 30 Nov 2020, with a total of 31 staff and graduate-students participated in this event.
Flu Vaccination (Southern Hemisphere) (Jul/Aug 2020)
In view of the global COVID pandemic and University Health Centre's (UHC) promotion to encourage staff to be vaccinated against influenza, the HIP-SHIP team sought Head of Department's support to fully cover the vaccination cost for all staff and graduate-students to reduce the incidence and transmission of flu in our Department, and to promote general good health in this trying times.
Flu vaccination exercise was conducted from 9 to 30 Aug 2020, with active participations from 32 staff & graduate students.
