NIC Singapore Conference 2-4 December 2019
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the NUS Medicine International Council (NIC), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the NIC Singapore Conference on “Discoveries and an emerging Asia”.
The world we live in has been riddled by uncertainty. With the on-going US- China trade war, escalating protests in Hong Kong, heightened tensions in the South China Sea, and age-old rivalries between Japan and Korea rising to the fore, the region is rife with challenges. With Indonesian elections just over, US elections upcoming, and the Brexit deadline extended again, geo-political winds add to the unpredictability. But amidst this evolving political landscape, medical science, technology, and business continues to pursue ways to make our lives better.
We will discuss these themes and more with the senior government officials, leading academics, and industry experts who will be joining us. While the issues we tackle can be weighty and at times even sombre, let’s not forget to celebrate the season in the spirit of giving by sharing our knowledge and insights. This NIC conference offers opportunities for all of us to do so both in formal settings as well as outdoors amidst lush greenery — a nice reminder for us, as global citizens, to continue paying attention to the sustainability of our environment.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Singapore Conference.
Season’s greetings and warm regards,
Ambassador Franklin L Lavin (Ret)
(Note: Attendance at the conference and all its related programme are by invitation only. Registered guests will receive an Eventbrite ticket confirmation. Dear NIC members and friends,
Welcome to the NIC International Conference in Singapore: “Discoveries and an Emerging Asia” on 2-4 December 2019
This year, we have an exciting line of speakers who will join us to discuss key regional challenges while uncovering cutting edge science and emerging business opportunities. We are looking to welcoming Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, Singapore, and Ambassador Delia Domingo-Albert, former Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Philippines, who will each share their perspectives of recent macro-strategic events. You will hear from the Swedish and Danish Ambassadors to Singapore, His Excellency Niclas Kvarnström and Her Excellency Dorte Bech Vizard about the European perspective of the post-Brexit world.
The Conference will be held at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. You are all invited to join us for welcome dinner at the spectacular Flower Dome – the world’s largest columnless greenhouse listed in the 2015 Guinness World Records, where we invite you to embark on a whimsical journey through the Nordic countries at Gardens by the Bay’s Poinsettia Wishes floral display, put up with creative direction by Ambassador Dorte Bech Vizard.
We look forward to seeing you there!
