TREATMENT TRIAL

Diabetic Dog Patient Recruitment

Is your dog diabetic? Seeking dog owners to take part in our treatment trial.
We are a group of  clinicians, researchers and veterinary clinicians from Singapore (NUS) and United Kingdom who are working towards applicable treatments and cures for diabetes in companion animals. Please consider enroling your diabetic dog for the following treatment trial, and help us improve the quality of life of our diabetic canine patients.

Description:
Diabetes mellitus is an important health problem in both dogs and people. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by destruction of insulin producing cells in the pancreas. This leads to high blood glucose and  other conditions such as cataract and urinary tract infections.
The purpose of this trial is to treat diabetic dogs with a novel insulin gene therapy approach. This treatment enables the dog to produce insulin in its liver.  The goal is to improve the outlook for pet dogs with diabetes by reducing/eliminating the amount of insulin injected  and reducing the complications and side effects from high blood sugar.

Eligibility:

  • Dog must reside in Singapore.
  • Diagnosed with diabetes by your vet and are currently being treated with insulin injections.
  • No co-mobidity such as pacreatitis, liver diseases, Cushing’s syndrome, or insulin resistance as assessed by your vet.
  • Suitability of trial as assessed by your vet and the investigators.

Incentive:

There is no compensation for participation in this study. However, the assessment for suitability and the treatment is performed at no cost to you.
