Congratulations to Dr Edward Kai-Hua Chow for being conferred Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Young Researcher of the Year Award – AY2016/2017 at the Faculty Medical Dinner 2018 on 3 July 2018. This award recognises junior faculty members who have demonstrated great potential in research and achieved research excellence.

Congratulations to Dr Cai Wanpei (Supervisor: Dr Alan Prem Kumar) for being awarded the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Best Graduate Research Publication Awards 2018.

Dr Cai Wanpei’s (1st Author) publication: Wanted DEAD/H or Alive: Helicases Winding Up in Cancers in Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) was submitted for the award.

Congratulations to A/P Gautam Sethi for being conferred The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Graduate Mentor of The Year (GRAMAY) Award 2018.

The annual award honors and celebrates Faculty staff for their excellence in graduate mentorship and the professional development of graduate students in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The award is given to recognize the important key roles played by the Faculty staff in inspiring and nurturing future biomedical-and clinician-scientists. The award recipients should have shown excellence in graduate supervision, intellectual and professional development as well as career development of their graduate students.

Congratulations to Shoon Mei Leng (Merit Award, Ting Wee Lee collected on behalf) and Zhu Mengyuan (Merit Award) for winning the NUSMed Safety Day 2018 Poster Competition.

Congratulations to Department of Pharmacology for winning the Best Booth Award in NUSMed Safety Day 2018. The NUS Medicine Safety Day was held on 26th July 2018.

The Safety Theme for our booth is Safety & Health 360. The team was lead by Yoke Ping, team members were Annie, Woon Fei and Yen Ling. The primary aim of our activity was to promote safety culture, to ensure that laboratory users are familiar with the requirements of NUS safety regulations and guidelines and to promote a healthy life style.

The booth was supported by all the LTs and 3 of our postgraduates on the actual day. We were selected by the judges to be one of the Best Booths.

Congratulations to A/P Wong Wai Shiu, Fred for being conferred Research Excellence Award – AY2016/2017 at the Faculty Medical Dinner 2018 on 3 July 2018. The award is to recognise staff members for their continued excellence and leadership in research in the Academic Year 2016/2017.

Congratulations to Associate Professor Gavin Dawe (centre) for being conferred the award of Distinguished Scientist for contribution and achievement in the field of Neuropharmacology by the Centre for Advanced Research and Design, Venus International Foundation.

Congratulations to Dr Peh Hong Yong on receiving the prestigious NUS-Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship (NUS-OPF), where he will begin his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was also presented the “Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent Scheme” award by Singapore Minister of Education (Higher Education and Skills) Mr Ong Ye Kung. The NUS-OPF provides opportunity to selected outstanding individuals for international postdoctoral training at top universities. The NUS-OPF scheme is part of NUS’ continuing efforts to develop its best talents for a career in academia through exposure to international postdoctoral training.

Hong Yong is now appointed a Senior Tutor in the department of pharmacology, and concurrently a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He had recently completed his PhD under supervisor A/P Wai-Shiu Fred Wong. During his PhD candidature, Hong Yong was awarded the President Graduate Fellowship and NUS-Industry Relevant Program Scholarship, where he published 17 peer-reviewed articles and won numerous awards including the Pharmacia Medal and Prize in Pharmacology (1st place), Society for Redox Biology & Medicine Travel Award, HOPE Meeting with Nobel Laureates Travel Fellowship, Global Young Scientist Summit Travel Fellowship, Lee Foundation International Conference Travel Award and YLL-SoM AGSC Best Oral Presenter Award (1st place) twice in 2014 and 2016.

Congratulations to Mr Ang Seng Ban for his 45 years of service to NUS, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology. He was presented with a painting of The College of Medicine Building at the NUS Medicine Awards Ceremony.
