HOD's Message
Pharmacology is a unique biomedical discipline that studies the origins, uses, and mechanisms of action of drugs. It is essential for workplace-ready students in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Science, and Life Sciences. Our curriculum spans pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacometrics, pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics, systems pharmacology, disease-specific therapeutics, drug discovery and development, personalised medicine, AI in pharmacology, N-of-1 pharmacology, clinical trials, green pharmacology, adverse drug reactions, and toxicology.
Founded in 1959, our Department has a rich legacy in pharmacology education and research. We have a dedicated team of academics, laboratory technologists, and research staff. In addition to training medical and health profession students and undergraduate life sciences students, we offer Master’s degree and postgraduate training, as well as continuing education and training for working professionals and learners in the wider community. Our staff are highly qualified, many with advanced training in medical and health professions education. We innovate in teaching methodologies, digitalization of education, and educational research.
Our research staff are at the forefront of pharmacology, with notable publications and funding in areas like cancer pharmacology, neuropharmacology, immunopharmacology, and drug development. We are proud to anchor key platforms such as the Drug Discovery and Optimisation Platform (DDOP), Memory Aging Cognitive Centre (MACC), and the NUS Neuroscience and Metabolic Phenotyping Core (NMPC) and contribute to major university research institutes.
Our Department is committed to excellence in teaching and educational research, while working closely with Translational Research Programs to support impactful research in therapeutic drug innovations and patient care.
